Employee Stories – Kelsey Lyon

This month we interviewed Kelsey Lyon who is based at our London ESS offices. Here’s what she had to say about working with ParentPay Group.

What is your name and job title?

Kelsey Lyon, Product Designer. I have been with the ParentPay Group for 2 months now.

How would you summarise what you do?

I empathize with our users to understand their pain points, I use design thinking strategies with my team to solve these problems, and I design, prototype and test, test, test.

What does your average day look like?

Morning meetings with the team over a cup of coffee, then connecting with co-workers, participating in workshops, or conducting interviews and usability tests. I usually take a stroll outside for some fresh air during lunch. In the afternoons I have my focus time where I put music on and deep dive into my projects.

Tell us about a recent project you worked on / are working on

I’m currently working on helping teachers easily record pupil assessments so that they can ensure their educational needs are being met.

What makes you enjoy working at ParentPay Group? What do you look forward to at work?

I am passionate about education, so working in this space and knowing I’m making a difference in the classroom is the best feeling. I also work with amazing people whom I learn from on the daily.

How would you describe the social aspects of our ParentPay Group?

We’re really collaborative and are building out our self-improvement culture, both of which are fundamental to achieve our goals. We’re also really open to adjusting our ways of working, and trying out new tools and techniques which is really fun and inspiring to me.

Have you worked for any notable internationally recognised companies?

I worked as a designer in Silicon Valley for a number of years both in-house and at an agency with clients such as Johnson & Johnson, The San Francisco Aids Foundation, Frameline Film Festival (The oldest and largest LGBTQ Film festival in the world) Eaze, and Mixbook.
